| | Ok. Today Trent got to see his Arch. After going on and on about it since we arrived in Paris there it was, the Arc de Triomphe, and it did not disappoint. The only problem was trying to fit the whole thing in a picture wihtout getting hi by cars.
We then wandered down the Champs Elysees to the Place de Concorde, where they were busy getting ready for the Tour de France finish. Once again, the heat was almost unbearable but we pushed forward through the Tuileries to the Louvre.
We got to The Louvre and bought our tickets without hassle, after visiting the Da Vinci code pyramids along the way. We didn't want to waste time and decided to come back tomorrow when it was free, for all the less popular sights. We could wander around then, but right now there was only one thing to do.
We walked through and saw what we later found were the three most popular sights in The Louvre.
Up the stairs, the first thing we walked into was 'The Winged Victory', a large ancient statue that is around 3500 years old. Next we went past all the medieval religious paintings into the great hall of Italian masters, past some familar (and not) Da Vinci paintings. We were close now, and walked into a huge room where a heap of people were gathered around one portrait. There she was. The Mona Lisa. I stood for ages and took in every last millimetre. Although she is not a really beautiful woman,I think what she represents is beautiful, and maybe the fashion world could learn a little from studying this painting.
The next stop was the Venus de Milo Statue, another life-size ancient statue without any history except being found in the greek isles, and dated over 2000 years old.
Anyway we wandered around through some greek and egyptian sculpture afterwards and left for some much needed sleep cos if we thought we were going to get even half way through this museum tomorrow we'd need it. |
