| We finally arrived in beautiful Salvador after a gruelling flight from Manaus...but doesn't matter now!
We are staying in Rio Vermelho which is a little out of the main part of Salvador near Barra.
On Saturday, Dany(Trent's old work friend from the blacket) and her fiance, Leo, met us and took us to Pelourinho. It is the old part of Salvador and all the streets are cobbled. There are baianas ( women dreseed in traditional dress) and street vendors everywhere. We saw some amazing local art and musical instrument shops selling ever kind of percussion instrument. We took the elevator down to the lower part of the city and wandered around the markets.
As we were walking back to the car a man asked us if we wanted to see the church. It diod not look like much of a building but we thought yeah, why not. Imagine our surpise when inside we learned that there was 700kg of gold in the gilded interior of teh Igreja e Convento Sao Fransico! It was absolutely amazing not to mention the painted ceiling!
After Dany and Leo took us to a popular local bar where we ate Acaraju(a local food with prawns) crabs, prawns and mussels and drank skol and caiparinhas all afternoon and it only cost about $18 each!
On Sunday we went to Barra to see the lighthouse and the spectacular views of the blue water, rocks and beach while drinking coco de agua(water from a coconut) it was awesome!
We went to a bar and had a very strong caiparinha right on the beach and then we drove to a street bar to meet Dany's friends.
After this we went to Trent's favourite thing...The Churrascaria with Rodizio! In english that means an all you can eat barbeque buffet where men bring scewers of meat to you table and cut the meat onto your plate.
We went back to the hotel and chilled! |
