| Jul 25, 2006 - From a German Brew House to an English Garden
| Well last night was great!
We went to the Hofbraühaus, which is the largest beer hall in Germany.
We had a couple of beers, which are surprisingly cheap and met some really cool people around us, though with broken conversation and a dodgy phrasebook.
There was a little 3 piece band, and Pretzals the size of a dinner plate, what a night.
Today we went on a nice walk through Munich and saw all the sights of the town centre.
Starting from the main station we walked down to the town centre, known as Marienplatz, passing a few nice buildings along the way.
We went inside a cuckoo clock shop and saw some amazing works of art, unfortunately we cant spare 2700 euros.
Next was the Glockenspiel, which is the town hall facade. A giant clock, which has moving life-sizs jousters, and dancers and stuff. Just like a giant cuckoo clock.
After this we went through the Royal Residence and had a look at all the nice buildings around.
Next was the Hofgarten, a perfectly designed landscaped garden which was really nice.
From here we walked to Englischer Park, which is larger than NYC's Central Park and got lost there for a few hours.
We saw the tomb of Heinrich Heine, a famous German poet who wrote the words to a lot of classical songs and stuff.
We found out that its quite common to sunbake nude in German Parks, and that its mostly dirty old men doing it.
We saw the parks little river flowing through to a giant lake, but forgot our swimmers so we'll have to head back there another day.
So we pretty much just relaxed with our feet in the water of one of the little streams full of Swans, Ducks, Rabbits (On the island), and massive Trout till the sun went down.
After this was a nice walk back through all the sights, now lit up. |
